Sunset Boat Trip at Cinque Terre: Which Departure Port, and Is It Worth the Price?
Updated October 20, 2026 · 5 min read
A sunset boat trip is worth it if it leaves from a village on the Cinque Terre coast, because the departure port decides what you see. A trip from La Spezia can be lovely, but it shows you the Gulf of La Spezia, not the five villages. Check where the boat goes before you compare prices.
The departure port matters more than the price
GetYourGuide has 26 sunset offers for the area, from €60. They fall into three groups:
- From a Cinque Terre village (Monterosso, Vernazza, Riomaggiore) or from Levanto, just up the coast: the boat is already on the coast, so most of the trip is spent along the cliffs.
- From La Spezia, but named for the Cinque Terre: for example the speedboat sunset tour of Cinque Terre with aperitivo, 3 hours from €120 (108 reviews, 4.8 stars). Ask how long you spend off the villages after the crossing.
- From La Spezia, in the Gulf: the route stays inside the gulf.
The last kind is the La Spezia sunset tour with aperitivo and snacks. It lasts 2 hours from €90 (202 reviews, 4.9 stars), and the listing names the Torre Scola and the Tino lighthouse. Those are in the Gulf, not on the Cinque Terre coast. It is a good tour for what it is, but it is not a Cinque Terre sunset.
Options from the villages
- The Riomaggiore sunset boat tour is 2.5 hours from €82.50, with 164 reviews and 5.0 stars. The listing says it cruises along all five villages, includes a swim and an aperitivo with Prosecco, soft drinks and focaccia.
- The Vernazza sunset tour with aperitivo lasts 2.5 hours from €100 (109 reviews, 5.0 stars), with a swim, a welcome drink and a tasting of local products.
- The Monterosso sunset cruise with aperitif on board takes 3 hours from €119 (205 reviews, 4.7 stars).
- The Monterosso day or sunset boat tour lasts 2.5 to 3 hours from €63 (708 reviews, 4.9 stars) and can be booked for the morning, afternoon or sunset, with snorkelling.
- The Vernazza morning, afternoon or sunset cruise takes 2 to 3 hours from €65 (303 reviews, 4.6 stars); the sunset option adds an aperitif.
- The Levanto sunset boat tour is 3.5 hours from €119 (112 reviews, 5.0 stars).
These sit on the Cinque Terre sunset cruises page next to the rest.
Is it worth the price?
Prices run from about €63 to €119 among these options, against a median of €114 for the sunset category. The lowest-priced, the Monterosso day-or-sunset tour, is sold for several times of day, so check on the booking page that the sunset slot has the format you expect. The more expensive trips tend to add an aperitif, a swim stop or a smaller boat; the booking page shows what your fare includes.
Compare it with the alternative: a day on the train costs a fraction of this. If the evening light on the villages is the point of the trip, though, a sunset departure is the format that delivers it. For the day options see Cinque Terre by boat or train.
Practical points
- Timing. Sunset shifts by several hours across the year, and operators set the departure to match, so the time on the booking page is the one that counts.
- Weather. Boats stay in port in rough sea, and cloud takes the colour out of the light. Ask what the operator offers if the trip cancels.
- Getting back. Check how you reach your accommodation after the boat docks; do not assume a train or bus is waiting.
- Children and swimming. Minimum age, life jackets and swim-stop rules are on each booking page; do not assume them.
Portovenere at golden hour
If you stay around La Spezia, the same light on Portovenere is an alternative; see Portovenere and the three islands by boat.
